Tarifa. The windy town between two waters. A windy town between two continents, with a lengthy and exciting chain of historical events which have left a trail of tradition, history, art and architecture scattered throughout. One of the most significant landmarks is the church of San Mateo (your next door neighbour), a temple built in 1506 on the remains of an old Mosque. Due to its proximity to the African continent Tarifa has been considered a privileged location by many civilisations through the centuries.

Casa Padre is the jewel at the heart of the town.

Making the most of your visit

Tarifa offers lots of plans for your visit. From surfing the best waves in the southern coast of Spain to visiting the ruins of Baelo Claudia.

  • HEAD FOR BAELO CLAUDIA IN BOLONIA

The province of Cadiz is an important region thanks to its Roman history. Baelo Claudia is one of the standing, well-preserved Roman villages by the sea. It is free to enter, so you can roam these extensive ruins and travel through time. The history behind this key location in the mediterranean is fascinating to learn about and makes for a nice day trip.

  • GO ROCK CLIMBING

The San Bartolo range in Betis offers climbing routes for all climbers whether you are a beginner or experienced. This small but charming village is the access to over 280 routes with spectacular views of the Atlantic, the Riff Mountains in North Africa, and Punta Paloma beach.

  • HIKE ALONG PARQUE NATURAL DEL ESTRECHO

Infinite hiking trails in the mountains of the Parque Natural del Estrecho and along the coastlines on both sides of the peninsula. Head for El Bujeo and the most incredible views of the Jebel Musa mountain across the Straits of Gibraltar, in the African continent.

  • DOLPHIN & WHALE WATCHING

From April to October, there are daily boat trips from Tarifa port to see pilot, fin, orca, and sperm whales as well as lively dolphins. Watching these beautiful whales and dolphins in their natural habitat is fascinating and a real privilege. The perfect outing for families with young children!

  • SURF YOUR TROUBLES AWAY

In Tarifa we can guarantee 3 things: sun, wind, and surfing. With stretches of sandy beaches where you will see aficionados and amateurs participating in all kinds of water sports including windsurf, kite-surf, paddle surf, kayak and so many more. There are day courses available and also board renting.

The most amazing hidden gem in tarifa! We got the most sublime week staying there! The church bells are a blessing, the sunsets were magical we loved everything ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is a fabulous place to stay. It is nicely decorated and decked out. Very close to town, but still secluded. Jan and Maria and very helpful, responsive and reasonable. Easily sleeps 5 adults. Roof terrace and side kitchen are particularly good. Would certainly stay again.

Thank you!
